FAQs

What types of bills does UCS accept?

UCS accepts hospital claims, ancillary facilities, physicians, chiropractic, workers compensation and some dental.

Do you have dollar thresholds?

We have no dollar thresholds. In fact we encourage our clients to send us all their out-of-network claims so we can save every available dollar.

How do I transmit claim?

You may transmit claims via:

  • EDI
  • Fax
  • Web browser/Internet
  • Secure FTP site
  • Mail

How long is the set up time for EDI?

The normal setup time for EDI is 5 to 10 business days, depending on the complexity of the client’s system.

How long is your turn around time?

If a claim is being repriced through a PPO network it normally does not take more than a couple of hours. Claims that need to be negotiated take 1-2 business days. If any claim is out for longer than 3 business day you will be contacted by email with the claim’s status.

Is UCS nationwide?

Yes, we discount claims in all 50 states.

How do you differ from other repricing companies?

What separates us from our competitors is our superior customer service. We take the extra steps to make sure our clients are satisfied. Each client is assigned a contact person so their questions can be answered in a timely manner. We realize when you have a problem you want it solved as quickly as possible.

In addition we do not use real-time pricing, which is the main reason for disputes and low average discount rates. Although this seems to be a popular method of achieving discounts, it is not in the client’s best interest.  Even though this method lowers the repricers operating cost, it often results in a smaller recovery for your groups. Because we do not use this methodology we have less than a 1% dispute rate and a national average discount rate of 28%.

Many of our competitors set up minimum dollar thresholds for negotiated claims because there is little financial gain on their end. At UCS these low dollar claims are factored in and the cumulative effect equates to substantial savings for your groups. By going the extra mile we can boast a national capture rate of 82%.

How are disputes or reversals handled?

Because negotiated claims are signed off by the provider, they are never appealed. Any out-of-network PPO discounted disputes are handled by UCS. We ask you to forward all disputes you receive to us. We then contact the provider to see how we can resolve the issue. You are always kept informed on how the issue is being handled until it is resolved.

What percentages of disputes are not upheld?

Less than 1% of all PPO claims are disputed and of those 50% are upheld.
